Mehriz

  About Mehriz

Discover Mehriz, a peaceful and historic desert town located just south of Yazd, nestled at the base of the Yazd Mountains, at an altitude of approximately 1,450 meters above sea level. As one of the greenest spots in Yazd Province, Mehriz is known for its ancient qanat system, pistachio orchards, and quiet, timeless charm.

Mehriz features a hot desert climate, with hot summers, cold winters, and low annual rainfall—yet it remains a refreshing stop thanks to its underground water systems and shaded gardens. The town is ideal for those seeking a deeper connection with Iran’s rural and architectural heritage.

Highlights include the Pahlavanpour Garden (a UNESCO-registered Persian Garden), the historic Mehr Padin Castle, Shah Hossein Shrine, and the traditional Qanat of Hasan Abad, part of Iran’s ingenious ancient irrigation systems. Mehriz is also a gateway to Saryazd Village, home to one of the oldest adobe fortresses in Iran.
